Adventures in Traffic: Part IV

Sympathy Slowing

Driving to work this morning was a slow death....which was odd because there is normally traffic on my way home not on my way to work. Normally, I am free and clear all the way to Starbucks, and very few things are more frustrating than unexpected traffic jams early in the morning before you had your coffee.

At my blazing speed of five miles per hour, I flipped on the radio just in time to hear "Jet" from the KIIS TrafficCam Helicopter tell me that there is "sympathy" slowing on the 405 due to a five-car traffic collision.

"Wow," I thought, "This must be a fantastic collision!" I began to inch towards the scene of the disaster with expectation, excitement, and wonder. How bad with the cars be crushed?

Then I got there.

Yes. There were five cars. Three were witnesses.

Yes. There was a collision...if you can call it that.. I had to drive painfully slow past the scene and rubberneck to notice the dent in the driver's side bumper on one of the cars and the offset front bumper on the other car. Wow.

To hell with my sympathy.

We need another name for this. Any Suggestions?
